Are mountains in Wales actually mountains?
By Wales’s definition, the mountains listed in Wales are mountains. By American standards, we could consider them hills or very small mountains. It does not mean they are any less mountains; it is just a point of comparison between the two. The United States naturally has much higher mountains than you are going to find in Wales. A good comparison is to think of Pen y Fan, which is the highest mountain in South Wales. Pen y Fan stands just over 2,000 feet tall. When you compare it to the tallest mountain in my home state of Washington, Mt. Rainier, you will find that our tallest state mountain is over 14,000 feet tall. It is all just a matter of perspective. But if the Welsh call it a mountain, then you need to too. Do not be offensive and call it a baby mountain or a hill, because that is unfair to them. Be respectful when you are visiting another country. Remember that their terrain and culture is different and do not mock the differences.
How big is Brecon Beacons National Park?
The park covers about 519 square miles and spreads across four regions: the Black Mountain, Fforest Fawr, the Brecon Beacons, and the unfortuntately and confusingly named Black Mountains which lie in the east. The Black Mountain is not part of the Black Mountains, but they do have the same name.
