Taff Trail to Brynich Lock

This traffic free section of the Taff Trail, starts from the car park at the Brecon Canal Basin and follows the well-surfaced tow path of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal for 3 easy miles down to its first lock at Brynich.

There are picnic tables at the side of the lock and others just a few hundred metres away on the other side of the lane.

Watch out for wildlife as you cruise easily along the canalside. As well as the obvious ducks, there's the chance that you may see some dragonflies and maybe even a heron or kingfisher. As well as an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and the beautiful countryside, this could also be seen as an educational excursion, giving the young ones a chance to see a variety of narrowboats navigate the rise and fall of the small lock.

Remember to save some energy for the 3-mile return journey.
