Ride C: 19 Miles
Fabulous Fans
Starting from Llandovery, this is a ride for the true mountain lover with some spectacular views over some of the most dramatic upland scenery in the whole of the National Park.
A steady ascent follows quiet lanes to Myddfai, where the climbing begins for real on a long pull up to the small village of Talsarn. An easy 3-mile out-and-back detour from here will take you to the earthworks of an old Roman camp, where there are great views over the Usk Reservoir. The next section heads west to Twynllanan, a small hamlet in the shadow of the dramatic escarpment of the Carmarthen Fan.
From here, it's downhill all the way to Llangadog, once an important medieval town and now a bustling little centre with plenty of cafés and inns to distract visitors. The home leg hurdles one final hill before dropping easily back into the narrow streets of Llandovery.
