Ride B: 28 Miles
Golden Hills
This is a much longer ride that explores the dramatic mountain scenery to the north of Llandovery.
It starts easily enough, following quiet lanes along the floor of the beautiful Tywi Valley, through the villages of Cilycwm and Rhandirmwyn to Tywi Bridge, where a short but tough uphill detour will allow you to take in the Dinas Nature Reserve as well as some fine views across the expansive waters of Llyn Brianne.
From here, you head west, climbing steeply to the ride's highpoint at Bwlch-y-rhiw and then cruising easily down to the village of Pumpsaint, where you may want to take an excursion into the historic Dolaucothi Gold Mines. The return leg follows a roller-coaster route past a few lonely farmsteads to the typical Welsh mountain village of Caeo, where the excellent Bruant Arms is ideally placed for a spot of lunch. Fully satiated, it's more of the same all the way back to the bustle of Llandovery.
