How To Get Here

You can get to the National Park with your bike by car, by train or by using the Beacons Bus Cardiff Bike Bus. Alternatively save yourself the effort and hire bikes once you are here.

Car
Get the bike on the back of the car and then leave the car parked up where you are staying whilst you enjoy the peace and quiet on your bike. Cycle Breaks and Mountian Bike routes are specially designed to run out of 'cycle hubs' that have all the facilities you could want (normally including cycle repair and hire businesses) as well as a good range of accommodation and eating places. Don't touch the steering wheel until you go home!

Train
Bikes can be taken on trains even though you may have to book a place for them. Trains into the Valleys from Cardiff (to Rhymney and Merthyr Tydfil especially) do not need pre-booking of bikes and you can find routes up into the National Park from the terminal stations. Many trains still have goods vans attached - see timetable. Get the train to Abergavenny, Llandeilo or Llandovery and cycle on from there.

Beacons Bus
Beacons Bus runs on Sundays and Bank Holidays in high summer from 6 centres in South Wales. The Cardiff service tows a bike trailer and you can use it to get to Garwnant or Brecon with your bike. From there you can amble down the cycle breaks routes for the day, take the family to all the facilities of Garwnant Forest, cycle back to Cardiff off road on the Taff Trail or burn some energy on the mountain bike routes. And at the end of the day, let the bus take you home.

The Transport pages within the National Park Authority's main site give more details on how to get around the area.
