Families can stop here and enjoy their lunch whilst watching the narrowboats navigate the rise and fall of the lock on what was once a very busy waterway. Just a short walk further on is a wonderful four-arched viaduct that crosses the River Usk. Look out for kingfishers and many species of dragonfly along the way.

Those without children may choose to continue for another mile, on quiet country lanes, to enjoy their lunch in the excellent White Swan in Llanfrynach.

Return is by the same route unless you've still got energy to burn, in which case you could make a loop of it by climbing up through Cantref. This will add approximately four miles to your day.

Family

Cycling is a great family activity. You can spend time with your children and know you are shaping their healthy future.

Try the 6.1 mile Brynich Loch & Brecon Canal cycle route for traffic free cycling along the canal before a mile of country lanes leading to Llanfrynach and its pub.
